SEAHAVEN ISLAND, a soundstage in the United States. Seahaven is the largest building in the world, and one of only two manmade structures visible from space. Inside the large dome is small town on an island, its outside connections being by bridge and ferry. The town is highly centralized and citizens travel about the island via car or bicycle. All the residents excepting Truman Burbank are paid actors. Seahaven Island is actually a giant set from which the daily adventures of Truman are broadcast live to the world. Ten-thousand cameras scattered about the island capture his every breathing moment, and the activities of the residents are carefully scripted to prevent Truman from discovering the truth.

Mr. Burbank works for an insurance company located on Lancaster Square, in one of the few real buildings. The majority of the structures are fronts or half-constructed sets. All weather is artificially generated. The sky is blue plaster, the stars are stage lights hung from the dome's ceiling, and the moon is a broadcast studio where Cristof, the show's creator, resides.

A series of serious technical mistakes eventually led to Truman seeing the flaws in his world and discovering the truth. He left Seahaven, ending the show.
